About Hidy Ochiai
Known
as a world-class martial artist, Hidy Ochiai has been inducted twice into the prestigious Black Belt Hall of Fame
as "Instructor of the Year" in 1979 and again as "Man of the Year" in 1980.
The Rotary Foundation International named him a Paul Harris Fellow in
1997 and in 2001 he received the "Outstanding Community Leader Award" from the New York State Developmental
Disabilities Planning Council. In 2002 the Seratoma Club awarded him the "Service to Mankind Award".
He served as adjunct professor at the State University of New York at
Binghamton for eleven years teaching "Zen and Martial Arts of Japan".
He
developed EKP (Educational Karate Program) to benefit elementary as well as high school students. The program emphasizes
mental discipline, self-respect and respect for others, concentration and self-confidence, encouraging children
to achieve excellence and self-development.
His credentials also include the publication of five books: The Essence
of Self-Defense, Living Karate, The Complete Book of Self-Defense, Hidy Ochiai's Self-Defense for Kids-A Guide
for Parents and Teachers (published by Contemporary Books in Chicago), A Way to Victory: Miyamoto Musashi's Book
of Five Rings published by the Overlook Press.
